TREKKERS EXPEDITIONS2010 FROM THE HOOD TO THE WOODSDeparting: Aug 22, 2010 Trekkers offers one trip a year where students from our sister
organization (Urban Trekkers located in Camden, New Jersey) come to
Maine for a cultural awareness expedition. Students participate in
activities that promote diversity acceptance and awareness. Students
also go canoeing, kayaking, hiking, and so much more. Trekkers offers
this program to our high school Trekkers. TREKKERS WILD ST. CROIXDeparting: Aug 16, 2010 Trekkers will be offering a 5-day canoe expedition for Trekkers Alumni down the St. Croix river. Alumni will paddle the St. Croix, camping along the way for all 5 days. ROCKY MOUNTAIN EXPEDITION 2010Departing: Jul 29, 2010 Trekkers will be offering a 10-day expedition to the Colorado Rocky Mountains July 29th through August 12th. Students will explore Great Sand Dunes National Monument, see the cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde National Park, hike at Independence Pass and so much more. LEARN MOREAPPRENTICE TREKS 2010Departing: Mar 20, 2010 Apprentice Treks will be a joint collaboration between Trekkers and one of the oldest traditional boat building schools in the country, the Apprenticeshop in Rockland (formerly known as Atlantic Challenge), to offer young people the opportunity to learn how to build their own small tender from local craftsmen while investigating the unique character of this region’s maritime culture. Students will meet on various Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the Spring to learn traditional boat building skills as well as participate in field expeditions; meeting directly with expert boat builders and historians in Midcoast Maine. The program will conclude with a celebratory launching of student and mentor-built tenders in early June! LEARN MOREURBAN SERVICE TREK: BOSTONDeparting: Feb 25, 2010 Trekkers' Jr. Leadership group will head into Boston for a weekend of service and cultural exchange. Serving elementary school children in a South Boston bilingual school, then spending time at the Boys and Girls Club of Roxbury, the Leadership group will explore the realities of leadership and service within the larger context of American culture. RIDE THROUGH HISTORY 2010Departing: Feb 12, 2010 From February 12th through the 21st, 9th grade Trekkers will climb aboard Daisy to take a ride through American History by exploring Boston, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia. LEARN MORELEADERSHIP TRAINING WEEKEND 2009Departing: Nov 13, 2009 Off to camp Kieve for another great weekend of initiatives and discussion designed to explore what it means to be a leader, Trekkers style. PHOTO TREKS 2009Departing: Nov 01, 2009 Each week, students will be given a digital camera and will travel on the Trekkers bus to various waterfront sites with professional photographers to learn digital photography. During a separate session, students will work on their photographs in the digital lab at Maine Media Workshops in Rockport. At the end of the seven-week session, students will work collaboratively with artists at Julia’s Gallery to put together a photography exhibit of their work. The trip took place April 1st - 5th at Stump Sprouts retreat center in Western Massachusettes. They will spend four days exploring the area, breaking down cultural barriers and having fun! LEARN MORE PACIFIC NORTHWEST EXPEDITION 2007Departing: Aug 02, 2007 Trekkers is taking 20 soon to be eleventh graders and 6 adults out to the Northwest on 12 day trip around the Northwestern United States. The group will explore the Redwood Forests, Mt. Saint Helens, Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, and Crater Lake National Park. They will also meet with Redwoods activists, help out physically disabled adults, and learn about Lewis and Clark's Journey. LEARN MOREST. LEARN MORECOLLEGE/CAREER EXPLORATION 2007Departing: Apr 13, 2007 This year, Trekkers will take its biggest group, 20 students, on the College and Career Exploration expedition. The group will travel as far south as PHilidelphia and as far west as Vermont. Students from Camden, NJ came to the camp to join our students for our first ever "Hoods to the Woods" program. LEARN MORE 2006 COLORADO ROCKY MOUNTAIN EXPEDITIONDeparting: Aug 03, 2006 Trekkers will be offering a nine-day expedition to the Colorado Rocky Mountains August 3rd through the 12th. Students will fly in and out of Denver International Airport. After landing, students will visit Great Sand Dunes National Monument, see the cliff dwillings at Mesa Verde National Park, see the Lowry Indian Ruins at the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, Hike the Continental Divide, visit ghost towns and so much more. This will truly be a once and a lifetime chance! LEARN MORE TEEN TREKKERS ACADIA TRIP 2006Departing: May 12, 2006 This year Trekkers took 20 students and 24 adults from Thomaston, St. George, Cushing to Acadia National Park for the 13th annual Teen Trekkers program. KATRINA RELIEF EXPEDITION 2005Departing: Dec 28, 2005 Trekkers is offering a 9-day expedition to New Orleans. This trip was orginally planned for the Florida Everglades. However, during our pretrek planning meetings, the students decided they would rather help out doing community service along the Louisiana and Mississippi coasts. Due to this major change in the itinerary, many of the other educational components are still being worked out. More to come later... LEARN MORE LEADERSHIP WEEKEND 2005Departing: Nov 11, 2005 Trekkers offered a leadership weekend for students in 11th and 12th grade. They took 12 students to a camp where they discussed what it meant to be a leader in Trekkers but also in life. LEARN MORE 2005 ALLAGASH CANOE EXPEDITIONDeparting: Aug 21, 2005 A group of students and adult mentors will depart on Sunday, August 21st on a 6-day canoe expedition along the Allagash River Waterway as a part of the “Trekkers Wild” program. Back in May, students began meeting to take part in team building initiatives to build team chemistry and help design and implement the six-day adventure. LEARN MORE RIDE THROUGH HISTORY SUMMER 2005Departing: Aug 03, 2005 Trekkers is offering an exciting 10-day expedition to 9th grade students (Team Pathfinder) August 3-12th. Students will travel throughout Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington DC. Students designed and implemented the expedition during pre-trip planning meetings earlier this year. This is the third year in a row that we have offered this program to ninth grade Trekkers. LEARN MORE 2005 ADVANCED TREKKERS TRIPDeparting: Jun 25, 2005 From June 25 through July 8th 23 students will be taking part in a 14-day expedition.These are students who have been involved in the advanced trekkers program. LEARN MORE 2005 TREKKERS 7TH GRADE EXPEDITIONDeparting: May 13, 2005 On May 13-15, 24 students and approximately 30 adults will be participating in the trip to Acadia National Park during its 7th grade Teen Trekkers Program. Over the course of the three days, students and adults will camp, hike, and canoe. LEARN MORE 2005 COLLEGE/CAREER EXPLORATIONDeparting: Apr 15, 2005 This year's College/Career Expedition will depart on April 15th and return on April 24th. Students who have been in the program for the past five years have the opportunity to explore different colleges and/or career paths that they are interested in. Students participated in a couple pre-trip meetings to build team dynamics as well as plan and implement the expedition according to schools/careers of their choice. On this particular trip, students will also be participating community service project in Camden, New Jersey. The trip will take place March 22-26th. Three to four adult mentors will participate in this year's program.
LEARN MORE 2005 "RIDE THROUGH HISTORY EXPEDITION" TEAM NORTHFACEDeparting: Feb 18, 2005 Trekkers offered this exciting 10-day expedition to 13 9th grade students (Team Northface) February 18-27th. Students traveled throughout Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC and New York City. Students designed and implemented the expedition during pre-trip planning meetings during January. This is the third year in a row that we have offered this program to ninth grade Trekkers. LEARN MORETREKKERS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EXPEDITION 2005Departing: Dec 28, 2004 Trekkers offered a 9-day expedition to the S. California for 10th graders December 28-January 5th. The educational focus of the expedition was four-fold: · Urban Culture and Community In the weeks leading up to the expedition, students participated in a four-week leadership and technology course, which concluded with each student going on a professional interview. The goal of the interview process was to build interpersonal skills and have each student gain experience presenting themselves professionally to others. During the course, students will developed their own personal web page. Students used their web site to inform the interviewers about themselves before they participated in the interview process. who were interested in exploring some form of higher education or
particular career field after high school. The goal of the trip
was to offer students the opportunity to visit 15-20 colleges, art and
trade schools, and/or visit directly with people who are working in a
particular career field of their choice. During the expedition,
one of the students kept a daily log of our adventures. Please

finish. 2004 TREKKERS RIDE THROUGH HISTORYDeparting: Feb 13, 2004 From February 13th through February 22nd, Trekkers offered a 10-day
"Ride Through History" expedition for 16 9th graders. Trekkers
toured historical places between Maine and Washington DC. Stops
included: A tour on the Freedom Trail in Boston, Paul Revere's
Home, the Old North Church, the USS Constitution, Liberty Bell Center,
Independence Hall, Holocaust Museum, Vietnam Memorial, the US Capitol,
the State Department, the Air and Space Museum and much, much
more. Trekkers also took a day in of snow tubing at a resort in
Connecticut, as well as participated in two cultural exchanges in the
cities of Boston and Camden, NJ. Please click the link below to
see pictures from the expedition and a daily log of the trip: 2003 EVERGLADES EXPEDITIONDeparting: Dec 28, 2003 Trekkers offered a 9-day expedition to the southeast region of the
United States for 10th grade Trekkers over their Christmas
Vacation. The educational focus of the expedition was to explore
the natural wonders of the Florida, including the Everglades.
Students also participated in a cultural exchange with migrant workers,
participated in a service project with "Give Kids the World," (an
organization that provides terminally ill children the chance to have a
"Disney Experience"), went on various hikes through the swamps,
took a fan boat ride, canoed in the Everglades and even went to the
beach a few times. 2003 TREKKERS 10TH GRADE SUMMER TRIPDeparting: Aug 16, 2003 Trekkers went on an 11-day expedition, August 16-27 - 2003, for incoming juniors. 2003 ADVANCED TREKKERS SUMMER EXPEDITIONDeparting: Jun 25, 2003 Trekkers offered a 14-day expedition, June 25-July 8, for 20 8th
Graders who had been involved in the Advanced Trekkers program. 2003 "THE CULTURAL BUS TOUR"Departing: Feb 13, 2003 Trekkers offered a 10-day Cultural Exchange Expedition, February 13-23,
for 15 9th Graders. Students traveled to Portland to work in a
food distribution center, to Nantucket to meet with the Cape Verdian
People and to New York City to work in a soup kitchen. The trip
also included visitng musuems, getting caught in a blizard and many,
many laughs. The goal of the trip was to expose students to the
diversity of cultures and landscapes that exist outside the focus of
their lives as a way to begin to build tolerance and understanding
between different races and cultures. 2002 ADVANCED TREKKERS SUMMER EXPEDITIONDeparting: Jun 26, 2002 Trekkers offered a 10-day expedition, June 26-July 6, for 15 8th
Graders who had been involved in the Advanced Trekkers program. 2001 ADVANCED TREKKERS 2 WEEK SUMMER EXPEDITIONDeparting: Jul 06, 2001 Nineteen 8th Graders went on a 14 day expedition July 6-20, 2001 LEARN MORE 2001 TREKKERS 7TH GRADE TRIP TO ACADIA NATIONAL PARKDeparting: May 18, 2001 Trekkers took 30 students and 18 adults to Acadia National Park during its 7th grade Teen Trekkers Program on May 18-20, 2001. TREKKERS PACIFIC NORTHWEST EXPEDITION 2001Departing: Apr 11, 2001 Trekkers offered a 10-day expedition to the Pacific Northwest for 9th
graders. The educational focus of the expedition is four-fold: 2001 ELEVENTH GRADE COLLEGE CAREER MARCH EXPEDITIONDeparting: Mar 08, 2001 Trekkers offered a 7-day expedition in March to 11th grade students who
were interested in exploring some form of higher education or a
particular career choice after high school. The goal of the trip
was to offer students the opportunity to visit a few colleges, art and
trade schools, or visit directly with people who were working in a
particular career field, within a certain designated region of the
United States. In the weeks leading up to the expedition,
students participated in a 3-week leadership/technology course that
taught each student how to create an educational portfolio on CD
ROM. The idea was for students to document their educational and
personal achievements throughout their high school years. 2000 10TH GRADE NOVEMBER EXPEDITION "BUILDING A LINK TO THE PAST"Departing: Nov 03, 2000 Trekkers offered a nine day expedition to 10 sophomores with the focus
of exploring the cultural landscapes of the past, as a way to build a
bridge to the future. The idea was to have students take the time
to reach out and listen to the stories of the elders, so that they
could gain a healthy respect for their journeys, begin to understand
their history, absorb some of their wisdom, which in return will help
them with their own life-journey. 2000 ADVANCED TREKKERS SUMMER EXPEDITIONDeparting: Jul 06, 2000 Fifteen 8th
Graders
who have been involved in the Advanced Trekkers program went on a 14
day
expedition July 6-20, 2000. The mission of the Advanced Trekkers
program is to introduce students to the diversity of cultures, people,
traditions and natural resources that exist outside the focus of their
everyday lives. A total of 22 people went on the two-week
experience. 2000 HURRICANE ISLAND SERVICE PROJECTDeparting: May 17, 2000 Each year Trekkers takes SAD 50 students who are involved in the 8th
grade Advanced Trekkers Program to Hurricane Island to do a
service-learning project for Outward Bound. Every year the
service project is both challenging and rewarding. This year was
no exception. Outward Bound needed our help to clean up a burned
out building that caught fire last November and burned to the
ground. Outward Bound is looking to build a new facility on the
same site and needed to get all the burnt wood and metal cleaned up so
they could begin to build. The Advanced Trekkers accepted the
challenge and left for Outward Bound's Headquarters on the Trekkers bus
on Wednesday, May 17. 2000 TREKKERS 7TH GRADE TRIP TO ACADIA NATIONAL PARKDeparting: May 16, 2000 Trekkers took 25 students and 15 adults to Acadia National Park during its 7th grade Teen Trekkers Program on May 19-21 2000 LEARN MORE 2000 TREKKERS SOUTH WEST EXPEDITIONDeparting: Apr 12, 2000 Students who were involved in the 9th grade Treks Program went to
Arizona for a 10-day expedition in April. Students from Maine
were flown out to Phoenix where they joined students from the
inner-city of Pittsburgh to study, "How the West Was (really)
Won.". In the weeks leading up to the trip 9th grade Trekkers
participated in a life skills course which concluded with a
professional interview with a fortune 500 company. The goal of
the interview process was to build interpersonal skills and have each
student gain experience presenting themselves professionally to
others. During the course students developed their own personal
web-page. The web-pages became helpful for students from
Pittsburgh to get to know the students from Maine before the
trip. Students also used their web-sites to inform the
interviewers about themselves before they participated in the interview
