Roads to New Relationships

"It is wonderful knowing everyday that I have been able to have so many awesome opportunities and experiences at such a young age. I only hope to be able to continue to help people throughout my community in some way or another to make their days or lives better."

Day 1

This daily log was written by Nathan M.  Nathan died three years after writing this log...his memory will be forever etched upon our souls.  Please enjoy his beautiful words and insights into what's really important in this world!

We went canoeing at Jordan Pond and went with the wind at first and it was easy.  In the beginning I partnered up with Megan and we had a little trouble at first, but in the long run we had fun.  On the way back I was with Nicole and we struggled the whole way and fell way behind.  The main reason was because the wind had shifted and it was now unbelievable, but when we got back to the boat ramp we felt good because we knew we accomplished something great.  After we put the canoes back on the vehicles we all headed back to the campsite to have dinner.

I was on fire duty so I went and got firewood with some other people while Zack, Frank, Whitney and Andy made the fire.  After about a half an hour we had a big dinner of spaghetti and salad.  After we had dinner the Red group finally made it back from their hike followed by the Green group an hour later.  We all washed our plates and Zack and I went and played Frisbee.  Now the Blue Group is sitting around the fire.

Before our conversation around the fire Don asked us to bring our journals.  He had us do what he called “free writes.”  He would give us a word or concept and we would write anything that came to our minds about the concept for 2 minutes and then we would share.

Day 2

Today is Saturday the 20th and we got up bright and early and started breakfast.  We had oatmeal with lots of different flavors and some delicious bagels.  Then we headed out for a big exercising hike.  First we headed up to the summit of South Bubble Rock, which had a beautiful view of Jordan Pond where we saw the Red group canoeing.  Then we headed to the summit of the North Bubble Rock, which still had a beautiful view of the water.  On top of North Bubble I asked if we could do some more “Free Writes.”

Topic Word:  Nature

Nature is our life, it's all around us but people these days don't stop and see the real beauty of it anymore.  It’s a shame because the outdoors is really good…

Topic Word:  Relationships

Relationships are great, it shows that two people can meet and love each other, sometimes a completely different person…

After the big climb we all felt good about ourselves and headed back down.  Then we all went to the beach.  Personally, I didn't think this day would ever end.  So, at the beach Zack and I played Frisbee while everyone else laid back and relaxed.  Finally, we headed back to camp and had some big delicious potatoes with all the fixings.  And to rap up the day the Blue group went up to Cadillac Mountain to see and take pictures of the sunset and the beautiful scenery.

Day 3

Topic Word:  Going Home

Glad but disappointed, glad to see my family and to drink a flavored drink but disappointed because I had an awesome time and I loved playing Frisbee…

Topic Word:  Hope

I hope I see the things and scenery as I did this weekend again.  I hope I meet as nice as people as this weekend again, I hope my life goes as smooth as this weekend did…

Today is the 21st, the last day of the camp out.  All the groups get to pick where they want to go.  The Blue group decided that we would like to go to the Otter Cliffs.  Supposedly, we were just going on a small “walk.”  Yeah, right…if 5 miles is a small walk, then I don’t know what’s right anymore.  But it was fun because when we were walking on the road we got to cheer for the bikers that were in a race.

After we finally got back all the Trekkers had one final closing circle.  After the circle we climbed into the cars and headed back to Thomaston.  Zack and I fell asleep in the back seat 10 minutes into the drive.

Rap Song that Zack, Don and I made up:

“Yo! Where my Trekkers at…
we got ya back…
Well, I can feel dat…
Keep it coming back…
Naw where my Trekkers at
We got your back
Well, I can feel dat
Keep it comming back
Cause we're the Trekkers in blue
We do lots of fun stuff like hike and canoe
So, when ya see us out there
Da...da...da...don't have a scare
Cause we're the Trekkers in blue
and we love you."

Poems from the trip by Andy C.

Relationships

A moth and a moth
Who cares what they think or act
Who cares what they do
But if you where one of those moths you would try and love one another
Wouldn't you?

Hope

The grass and the water swooshed by
and the clouds ran by like a race
but the man on the ship stood still in his boots
and awaited for the waves to crush him

Going Home

By then all the kids have left the bus
but one kid sat still on that bus like he was frozen
they didn't know what he did on that trip
but it seemed as if he was still on it
